Fiberglass PTFE tapes are tapes whose backing is a woven fiberglass fabric that has been impregnated or coated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). In many cases they also have an adhesive layer (silicone, acrylic or others) to facilitate their application. This combination takes advantage of the thermal and chemical/slip resistance of PTFE along with the mechanical and thermal stability of fiberglass.
1. Service temperature range: typically -100°F to 500°F (-73°C to 260°C) for PTFE tapes impregnated with silicone adhesive; however, some types with specific adhesives or finishes may have more limited ranges (e.g. -60 °C to 200 °C in some industrial references). Always check the manufacturer's data sheet for the particular version.
2.Chemical resistance: very high; PTFE is inert to most acids, bases, and organic solvents.
3.Electrical insulation/dielectric strength: good to very good; manufacturers list dielectric strength values in the technical sheet (e.g. ~6,100 V in certain commercial constructions).
4.Mechanical Strength/Tensile Strength: Fiberglass brings tensile strength and dimensional stability; The values depend on the type and thickness (see table below).
5.Low friction and non-stick: PTFE surface prevents molten plastics or adhesives from sticking; that is why they are used as release and non-stick surfaces.
6.Abrasion Resistance/Service Life: Good — Fiberglass base improves durability over PTFE-only tapes in abrasive applications.
1.Heat sealing and tape for sealers (bag sealers) in packaging.
2.Packaging and thermoforming machines (non-stick surface).
3.Electrical insulation and separation of components in furnaces or high-temperature equipment.
4. Liners and protectors in processes where molten plastics are worked (prevent adhesion).
5. Industrial applications in electronics industry, packaging, laminating, heat sealing, RFI/EMI sealants, and as a support in welding/heat processes.
